Equality and feminist studies library inaugurated in Greece

Greek Interior Minister Alexis Charitsis inaugurated on Wednesday the library of the General Secretariat of Equality at Kotzias Square declaring any time a library opens, it counts as a victory over fake news, greekcitytimes.com reports.

The library was established in 1984 and is unique in Greece for its extensive contents on equality, a large part of which have been digitised, Secretary General for Equality Fotini Kouvela said. It contains 19,000 books, pamphlets and scientific publications.

“Any time a library opens, it’s a victory over fake news which in our era has assumed the proportions of an epidemic,” Charitsis noted. In a tweet posted later on his account he said that the collection “is a unique library, a source of information for the struggles of women and the history of the feminist movement,” before adding that the Secretariat “contributes decisively to the creation of a culture without discriminations and marginalisations.”
