20,000 migrants and refugees transferred from islands to Greek mainland

Greece’s Citizen Protection Minister, Michalis Chrisochoidis confirmed on Thursday that refugee families numbering a total of at least 20,000 individuals will be transferred from the Greek islands to the mainland, according to greekcitytimes.com.

The Minister disclosed the plan during a briefing of New Democracy deputies on the basic regulations of a new draft bill on granting refugees asylum, which is currently on public consultation.

According to him, families will be distributed equally and housed in hotels and facilities.

“MPs had no problem in relation to their voting districts accepting refugees, especially since the minister assured them that there will be equal distribution among regions,” said ND’s parliamentary secretary Stavros Kalafatis adding that housing families in military camps was ruled out.
