Below zero temperatures were recorded on Thursday in northern Greece with the lowest temperature of -4.3C recorded in Paranesti and Nevrokopi (Drama region), according to ANA.
In Kozani, temperatures dropped to -3.2C and in Aghios Pavlos (Imathia region) they dropped to -2.8C. Low wind speeds combined with clear skies in eastern Macedonia resulted in an intense cooling of the air near the ground during the night, said the meteorological service of the Athens National Observatory.
Very low temperatures were also recorded in the region of Epirus, with the thermometer showing -3.8C in the village of Anilio, Metsovo.
Snow chains were needed by vehicles moving on the rural road from Naoussa to the ski resort of Tria-Pente Pigadia on Thursday, as well as on the rural road from Naoussa to Seli (from the 9th km until the ski resort of Seli) due to frost.
The general police directorate of central Macedonia also informed drivers that snow chains are no longer needed on the old national road from Veria to Kozani and Veria to Seli, as well as on the rural road from Veria to Daskio.
