Closed hosting structures for immigrants will be set up in Samos, Chios, Lesvos, Kos and Leros by summer, announced Immigration Minister Notis Mitarakis, int.ert.gr reports.
Under the government’s plan, newcomers to Greek territory will remain in closed structures to facilitate their identification and the asylum process.
When violations are discovered, as well as in cases where no asylum is granted, the return procedure will be followed.
Those staying in closed structures will be entitled to controlled card exits, while at night the structures will stay closed.
Construction of the closed structures will commence in March and will begin to operate in the summer, Mr. Mitarakis said, adding that they would be safe and medically autonomous.
On the other hand, there was a strong reaction from local authorities and residents in the aggravated islands, who are planning mobilizations on Thursday morning, in Athens.
