Syntagma area in central Athens reopens after EYDAP digging is halted

The metro stations Syntagma and Panepistimio were reopened on Tuesday afternoons and trains are stopping at the stations as normal. Police had earlier ordered both stations closed and called in a bomb squad after an artillery shell was found at the intersection of Ermou and Niki streets, during digging by the water company EYDAP, ANA reports.

Initially believed to be an unexploded WWII shell, the object was found to be harmless, media sources said.
