Magnitude 5.4 earthquake strikes off the Greek island of Rhodes

An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck at 20:43 on Sunday, with an epicenter at 29 km northeast of Rhodes and a focal depth of 50 km, int.ert.gr reports.

The earthquake was felt in the city of Rhodes, but also in areas of the Turkish coast. No damages have been reported in Rhodes so far.

The post-earthquake sequence is considered reassuring by scientists, with the biggest quake of this magnitude measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurring at 07:06 on Sunday morning, 29 km west of Rhodes and at a focal depth of 70 km which the seismologists described as “a positive first indication of the declining course of the seismic sequence”.
