In a post on Facebook on Saturday, epidemiologist Gkikas Magiorkinis explained why he does not consider that smaller class sizes of 15 or less were important for containing the spread of Covid-19, ANA reports.
“After yesterday’s briefing at the ministry, I return to the issue of class sizes since the discussion appears to be focused on this and to explain why I am not convinced that it has so much importance. The distance of 1.5 meters is important for the transmission of droplets and we must maintain it as much as we can, generally. Where we cannot, we must find a way to reduce the risk of transmission through the use of a mask. The same logic applies in schools with the general use of masks in classrooms. Classrooms, it should be noted cannot be viewed in the same way as catering areas…they constantly have the same make-up and can be viewed as social bubbles and the approach to them is quite different,” he noted.
