Health experts expressed their concern over the large exodus of cars from Attica to other areas in Greece prior to the lockdown on Saturday, at a live briefing held on Monday on coronavirus pandemic developments, int.ert.gr reports.
Pediatrician and infectious diseases specialist Vana Papaevangelou said that Attica has a particularly heavy viral load, and she called on those who left the Athens metropolitan area to keep a responsible stance in order to prevent the possible spread of the virus.
Doctor Gkikas Magiorkinis, on the Health Ministry’s novel coronavirus committee, spoke on the vaccine being developed by Pfizer, which he said appears to be 90 pct effective after two doses. Trials were held with the two doses, separated by three weeks, in over 43,000 people in 6 countries, he explained.
Also addressing the briefing, Civil Protection Deputy Minister for Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias provided more clarifications for people who want to visit notaries, lawyers, and court officials. The officials have to provide proof of summons to a person, recorded another 1,490 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, it said on Monday, of which 25 were identified at entry points to the country, bringing total novel coronavirus cases since the pandemic broke out to 58,187.
Of these, 4,456 are related to travel abroad and 15,977 to already known cases, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said.
A total of 239 people are on ventilators. Their median age is 66 years and 87.0 pct have an underlying condition or are over 70 years of age; 59 are women.
Another 329 have been discharged from ICUs since the beginning of the pandemic in Greece.
Furthermore, 41 people died, bringing the death toll in Greece due to coronavirus to 825. The median age of all was 79 years and 96.5 pct had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or more, while 335 were women.
