Operation Freedom: Big challenge of mass vaccination begins in Greece

The national coronavirus vaccination campaign begins shortly, after the European Medicines Agency announcement that it will consider approval for the first Pfizer vaccine a week earlier than expected on 21 December instead of 29 December, int. ert.gr reports.

As Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced yesterday in  the Parliament, the whole operation will be named “Freedom” as it marks the liberation from “hostage of the pandemic” so as to “claim high rates of prosperity again.”

Following the approval of the vaccine by the European regulatory authority, the European Commission is expected to give the final approval within three days, after consulting with the 27 European governments, which means that in the coming weeks our country will face a new big challenge of mass vaccination.

The Prime Minister stressed that the vaccines will reach “free of charge to every Greek, to every corner of the country” and will be given with a priority to be determined, with strict scientific criteria, by the National Vaccination Committee.

At the same time, he reiterated that the threat of covid will continue to lurk until at least 60% of the Greek population is vaccinated, which means that the commitment to protection measures should continue.

“The further the vaccination progresses, the more the virus will subside and the sooner we can regain control of our lives,” he noted.
