Fewer than expected doses in first batch of Covid-19 vaccine in Greece

Fewer than the expected doses of vaccine will include the first batch that the country will receive, as well as all EU countries, under the responsibility of the manufacturer, int.ert.gr reports.

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas announced that Greece is expecting in this first phase roughly 300,000 doses, corresponding to vaccination of 150,000 people (doses are double), instead of the 500,000 it would receive, according to the Commission’s calculations for the amount to be received from Pfizer.

As Mr. Petsas said, the first vaccines in our country will be used for the vaccination of the first line health workers, as well as for the inmates and the employees in the Health Care Units. The registration of the health workers who want to be vaccinated begins today.

At the same time, the epidemiological burden is not dropping, with ICUs still full. In the last 24 hours, 1,190 new cases were recorded in our country, 552 of our fellow citizens are hospitalized by intubation and 85 lost their lives.

Scientists and the political leadership of the Ministry of Health are worried about the course of the pandemic during January, as the cold works in favor of the virus.
