Intense rain occasionally followed by hailstorms in coastal areas, powerful winds at the Aegean Sea, and heavy snowfall in high elevations are forecast by the National Meteorological Service (EMY) as of Sunday, according to ANA.
In an extreme-weather warning issued on Sunday, EMY noted the following, in brief:
HEAVY RAIN: Starting Sunday night, at the Ionian Islands and then moving to Epirus, and the western parts of Central Greece and Macedonia. The phenomenon will abate by Monday afternoon.
In central Greece, the Peloponnese, and as far as Evia and the Sporades Islands, heavy rain on Monday that will abate by night, when the phenomenon will have moved on to Thrace and the eastern Aegean overnight to Tuesday.
HIGH WINDS: Starting on Monday, the southerly winds will lash the Aegean Sea at speeds of 7 and 8 on the Beaufort scale, reaching up to 9. Velocity will drop gradually as of evening.
DENSE SNOW: In western and northern parts of mainland Greece, as of Sunday night to midday Monday.
