The procedure for hiring the university campus police will soon begin so that they will be ready to go into action when universities start their new academic year in September, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis announced in an interview with “Kathimerini”, ANA reports.
He noted that the purpose of the new force is not only to solve and prosecute crimes but to avert them from happening: “So there are no more humiliated rectors or occupations that act as strongholds, like that of ASOEE or at Gini. Universities need freedom, democracy and security, not safehouses, occupations, and intimidation.”
