Greece has vaccinated more than 1,120,000 people against Covid-19, said Health Secretary-General for Primary Health Care Marios Themistokleous at Monday’s live briefing, ANA reports.
Another 30,000 inoculations were carried out nationwide until Monday evening, with some 747,000 citizens of the 1.1 mln total having so far received the first of two doses of the vaccine, he said.
More than 50 percent of citizens aged 75-85 have been vaccinated or booked an appointment for either the first or second dose, he said: 57 pct or 212,000 citizens aged 85 or more; 58 pct or 230,000 aged 80-84, and 68 pct (or 7 in 10) of those aged 75-79.
Themistokleous said that vaccine manufacturer Pfizer is scheduled to deliver 1.71 million doses by April, and added that the online appointments booking platform for citizens who belong to high-risk and vulnerable groups will open in March.
He also clarified that the AstraZeneca vaccine, which had initially not been offered to those 65 or over for lack of studies on its effectiveness at that age group, was approved for use in Greece as of February 12. This means that most people in that age group will have been vaccinated by the end of April or the beginning of March, taking into consideration the rise in online appointments and the integration of registration for those over 18.
