Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias, in an interview with Skai TV on Tuesday, recommended that all sides stay calm and collected with respect to the AstraZeneca vaccine while the scientific data is being analyzed after several European Union countries temporarily halted its use, ANA reports.
“We are waiting for the decisions of the official organizations, such as the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which will meet on the issue later this week,” Kikilias stressed. “Until the EMA says differently, vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine will continue,” Kikilias added, pointing out that the EMA is the institution for the safety of medicines and vaccines in Europe, whose recommendations the government and competent authorities in Greece have faithfully followed since vaccination began.
He also pointed out that there were countries that “went back and forth on this issue” and called on everyone to wait for the decisions of the EMA.
