Wildfires contained on the Greek island of Lesvos and Ilia prefecture

A precautionary evacuation of people with respiratory and mobility issues from the village of Lefkimi, at Dadia National Park, was carried out on Monday, where a wildfire is burning for a fifth consecutive day, said Evros Region Vice-Governor Dimitris Petrovic, ANA reports.

The wildfire at the southern part of the island of Lesvos has been contained, said Deputy Mayor for West Lesvos Civil Protection Andreas Axis on Monday.

This means the fire’s biggest fronts at Vrissa in the west and at the village of Stavros in the northwest, but the fire is still burning in the area of Rogada, where it first broke out on Saturday, and where water-bombing aircraft are still operating.

There is no active front in the wildfire that broke out on Sunday in the area of Makrissia, in the municipality of Andritsena-Krestena in the region of Ilia, northwestern Peloponnese, Vice-Governor of Ilia Vassilis Giannopoulos told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) on Monday.
