Inspections continue in Central Evia with strong aftershock not ruled out

Twenty-four homes were found unsafe for habitation and another 49 are habitable in the region of Psachna where an earthquake shook on Wednesday, ANA reports.

The earthquake, registering 4.9 on the Richter scale and recorded at 14:24 on Wednesday, was followed by dozens of aftershocks in Central Evia town by Thursday afternoon.

Crews from the Infrastructure ministry and engineers from several regions including the Technical Chamber of Greece have been inspecting homes and public buildings for structural damage in Central Evia.

There were no injuries reported or large-scale damage in Evia overall, but damages included storefronts in Psachna and the villages around it.

Aftershocks are continuing in the area, while seismologists have said they are observing the activity of the known Psachna fault, and civil protection services including police and the Fire Brigade are on patrol and on high alert.
