High security measures in Athens for Polytechnic uprising anniversary on Sunday

Police security measures in Athens will be particularly increased in view of the commemorative events that will take place on Sunday, November 17, for the 51st anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising, ANA reports.
As every year, this year too there will be a strong police presence around the Polytechnic and from other university institutions, the US embassy, ​public buildings, as well as in the Athens district of Exarchia. At the same time, due to the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, police will implement special security measures around the Israeli embassy but also in other buildings and businesses of Israeli interest.
According to sources over 5,000 police officers will be on alert on Sunday 17 November while there will also be assistance from officers of the Anti-Terrorist Service and the Intelligence Service.
At the same time, a police helicopter and a drone will fly from early over Athens while the special armored water-throwing vehicles will also be on the streets. Furthermore, pre-checks will be carried out continuously around the Polytechnic building and in general in the area, while armed policemen will also be present on the roofs of neighboring buildings.
Additionally, there will be traffic regulations, especially on Sunday when the commemoration events will peak.
Finally, according to information, a meeting will be held at the Citizens Protection Ministry on Friday, November 15 where the measures are expected to be finalized.
