The Municipality of Karpathos is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Tourism has approved the proposal entitled:
“Improving Infrastructure for People with Mobility Impairments on the Swimming Beaches of the Municipality of Karpathos for the Creation of an Integrated Tourism Product”.
The project is part of the “Tourism Development” Action of the Recovery and Resilience Fund, with a total budget of €275,792.00, co-financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
The aim of the project is to create a friendly and fully accessible tourist environment for people with disabilities or mobility difficulties, in order to promote Karpathos as an inclusive destination, with respect for equality and social cohesion.
The project will be implemented on four beaches of the island:
• Diafani,
• Thalassodentro (Pigadia),
• Xenonas (Pigadia),
• Foiniki (Arkasa).
The interventions include:
• Non-permanent access ramps to the sea.
• Removable changing rooms, chemical toilets for the disabled and portable walkways.
• Shade and protection areas for bathers.
• Special signage for accessible beaches.
• Telemetry and alarm systems for the safety of bathers.
With the inclusion of this project, we are taking a significant step towards making our beaches truly open to all.
Karpathos is becoming more hospitable, fairer and more modern, honoring the value of equality and accessibility, notes the Mayor of Karpathos, Michael Kon. Fellouzis
