Crete's tourism operators send a message of unity and security for the destination

In a joint statement, Crete’s tourism operators expressed their firm support for the Greek Police and the island’s police authorities, on the occasion of the isolated incident that recently occurred in the village of Vorizia.

As noted, Crete, one of the world’s top tourist destinations, welcomed approximately six million foreign tourists by air and hundreds of thousands of visitors by boat this year, without the slightest incident that caused a feeling of insecurity among visitors.

The text of the statement emphasizes that this image is the result of the continuous and impeccable cooperation between the tourism operators and the Greek Police, which “ensures the smooth operation of Crete’s tourism product every day”.

The tourism representatives express their warm thanks to the Crete Police Directorate and the political leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection for their constant support and contribution to maintaining the high level of security enjoyed by visitors to the island.

“We hope and wish that reason will prevail, so that similar isolated events that do not represent the reality of Crete as a safe and hospitable destination, nor the character of the Cretans, known for their warmth and generosity, will not be repeated in the future,” it is stated characteristically.

In conclusion, the tourism operators of Crete reaffirm their commitment that the island will continue to offer every visitor authentic hospitality, high-quality services and an absolute sense of security — elements that constitute the hallmark of the Cretan tourist identity.
