The Industrial Gasworks Museum celebrates its third anniversary by launching a new special enriching museum experience, the Neo Ydataerio.
Its visitors can climb up the tallest building of Technopolis, enjoy the view and the with the interactive screen help, discover a unique example of industrial heritage!
The former gasworks company-turned-multi-purpose cultural/educational center will be hosting the #switch_on event which celebrates the official launch of the Athens Watchtower and the first Athens Bikes sharing station and celebrates two years of Innovathens, housed in an 1887 building on the Technopolis grounds with parties and plenty of music.
Energy production
The New Ydataerio was built in 1952 to maximize energy production and its operation was interrupted by the closure of the factory in 1984. Its highest point was called “Tower” since its height reaches up to 30 meters.
It is the only watergas production facility preserved in Europe and a rare example of industrial heritage, since most of its mechanical equipment is intact.
Until today, the ground floor of the New Ydataeriou complemented the museum route but after 3 March, the tallest building of Technopolis will open its doors to visitors who will enjoy a 360 degree view of the entire city, the Acropolis, Lycabettus Hill, the western suburbs, Egaleo, as well as Faliro and Castella in Piraeus.
- Furthermore, an interactive display will allow visitors to:
- Browse digitally through the Industrial Museum Gasworks spaces
- Be updated on the events of Technopolis
- Better observe and appreciate historical landmarks
- Follow the suggested routes from Gazi Technopolis to Syntagma, Plaka, Kerameikos and the Piraeus Street industrial zone
- Take a selfie against the the Tower views background
