Every summer day, approximately 13,000 tourists move around in Athens and Attica spending a total of about 1.4 million euros for their activities, according to GBR Consulting’s annual survey on behalf of Athens, Attica and Saronic Gulf Hoteliers Association.
The average daily visitor expenditure outside the hotel is 106.7 euros, distributed as follows:
** 19.8 euros for sightseeing and fun
** 34.4 euros at restaurants and coffee bars
** 28.5 euros for shopping
** 24.1 euros for transportation
Tourists choose Athens as their travel destination primarily for its cultural interest and archaeological sites (76%) followed by gastronomy and fun, transit to another destination, shopping at malls and other modern life activities.
An extremely interesting finding of the survey is that 59% of tourists prefer printed brochures from an Info Stand in order to choose a restaurant and bar, to buy gifts, trips etc.
The survey is carried out every year by GBR Consulting on behalf of Athens, Attica and Saronic Gulf Hoteliers Association and is sponsored by City Contact.
