The next phase for the largest urban regeneration ever carried out in 30 building blocks in the center of the city of Chania begins with the reconstruction of the sidewalks on Karaiskaki and Ypsilandon streets on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Specifically, after the replacement of the water supply networks by the D.E.Y.A.H. and the undergrounding of the electricity supply networks by HEDNO, work is progressing with the reconstruction of the sidewalks on Karaiskaki Street, from Kydonias Street to Grigoriou E’ Street, and on Ypsilanton Street, from Peridou Street to Zimvrakakidon Street.
The regeneration of the 30 building blocks concerns an area in the heart of the city of Chania of 35,000 sq.m., which had been neglected for decades, while the goal is the revitalization of an area that will include the necessary urban equipment, the undergrounding and replacement of public utility networks, with sidewalks that will allow for unhindered accessibility and new plantings.
It is recalled that the budget of the project, which is financed by the Recovery & Resilience Fund of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, is close to 7 million euros, while its implementation schedule is set at 18 months.
