The establishment of a joint committee and the immediate holding of a meeting with the Mayor of Ierapetra, with the aim of submitting specific proposals and jointly planning actions for the tourism development of Ierapetra, were agreed upon at a recent meeting by the key stakeholders in the region. During the meeting, the need was highlighted for:
- Targeted measures to strengthen the tourism sector, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and improving the visitor experience.
- Promotion and functional upgrading of the coastal front, which can be a springboard for increasing visitor numbers.
- Creation of urban transport and connection of hotels with the commercial and cultural center, for better integration of visitors into the urban fabric.
- Adoption of a common tourism promotion strategy, with a unified identity and smart digital and physical communication tools.
- Institutionalization of a unified framework of demands, which collectively expresses the demands of all professional bodies involved.
The Hoteliers’ Association of Ierapetra and SE Crete, the Ierapetra Commercial Association, the Ierapetra Catering Association, and the Professional Yacht Association “The Dolphin” participated in the dialogue table, with a common belief that tourism is a key driver of development for the local economy and requires coordinated interventions.
This initiative marks the beginning of an institutional, substantial cooperation, with the aim of strengthening extroversion, stimulating the local economy and gradually making Ierapetra a model of a sustainable tourist destination.
