Athens is among the 30 most searched European cities in Google searches for weekend city breaks, according to a survey conducted by TUI’s business arm, TUI Musement.
The survey, conducted in September and covering searches for the period from August 2024 to July 2025, “brings” Athens to 23rd place in the ranking of most popular city break destinations. The Greek capital garners a total of 48,080 searches.
First in searches is Rome (525,000) followed by Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, Vienna, Budapest and Venice.
The ranking highlights destinations that impress with their wide range of culture, gastronomy and leisure activities, ideal for an extended weekend in Europe.
City breaks within Europe – whether within their own country or abroad – are the preferred type of holiday for 65% of Europeans, according to a recent report by the European Travel Commission.
At the same time, the growing demand for short trips of one to three nights, according to Eurostat, already accounts for more than 56% of all trips.
