A series of events are planned in Rethymno that highlight the cultural and festive character of the city, inviting locals and visitors to experience a unique experience. The event begins with a concert organized by the Museum of Medicine of Crete of the Medical School of the University of Crete at the Culture House. The event is scheduled to take place on November 19 and is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mikis Theodorakis, one of the most important composers in the country. The concert is organized in collaboration with the Department of Music Technology and Acoustics of the School of Music and Audiovisual Technologies of ELMEPA and the Association “Friends of Music”. The Christmas Events follow, scheduled to begin on December 1 and last until January 6. The lighting of the Christmas Tree marks the beginning of the festive events, while musical performances and activities for children invite families and visitors to actively participate in the celebration.
The city’s festive atmosphere culminates with the Rethymno Carnival, scheduled to begin on January 25 and end on February 23. The carnival is one of the most popular and numerous festive events in Crete, offering a rich program for adults and children. The events culminate with the grand parade of floats and carnivalists, as well as the traditional customs of Clean Monday, which keep the cultural heritage of the region alive. All events have free admission to the public and are organized by the Municipality of Rethymno, making the carnival a destination of high tourist value.
At the same time, the annual parade is scheduled to take place on October 28 in the settlement of Atsipopoulo, which is co-organized with the aim of preserving traditions and strengthening the local community. The parade is an important cultural event, attracting residents and visitors who want to live an authentic experience of local celebration.
