A five-day stay in Corfu including airline costs is one of the prizes of the “athlete of the year” contest launched by prestigious German newspaper Münchner Merkur.
Corfu participation in the contest is promoted by the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (EOT) Germany Office in cooperation with Lufthansa airline and support by the Ionian Islands Region.
Their aim is to advertise the destination in the German tourism market on occasion of the new direct air connection with Germany (15/05 – 23/10/2016).
70 years tradition
This popular contest is held for seventy consecutive years and offers the newspaper’s numerous readers an opportunity to reward Upper Bavaria region’s best athlete with a series of 61 prizes worth €13,000.
This year’s competition will be completed by February 17 and the results will be published on the February 27-28 printed and electronic weekend edition.
It is estimated that of the newspaper’s 200,000 subscribers and 500,000 daily readers, more than 35.000 will vote this year.
The contest’s runner-up will be offered two Lufthansa flight tickets as well as a five-night stay with half-board at a Corfu five-star hotel.
