“Ambassadors in Concert in Athens” to support SOS Children’s Villages Greece

For the third consecutive year, SOS Children’s Villages Greece is proud to present “Ambassadors in Concert in Athens”, a diplomatic musical event in aid of charity which was first held as a private initiative of ambassadors and diplomats in Vienna 12 years ago and was held in Greece for the first time in March 2014.

Building on the success of the two previous concerts, this year’s event will be held, under the auspices of the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday 17 March 2016 at 20:00 in the Banquet Hall at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron).

Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps from Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Ireland, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America will perform on stage to support the work of SOS Children’s Villages throughout Greece.

Distinguished performers

They will be joined by a number of distinguished performers: soprano Vasiliki Karayianni, tenor Dimitris Paksoglou and the Takis Farazis Jazz Trio (John Balikos Jazz trio).

The concert will include works by Schubert, Dvorak, Grieg, Lehar, Verdi and Theodorakis, as well as jazz by Keith Jarret, Bart Howard and Antonio Karlos Jobim. The evening will conclude with a performance by the Ambassadors in Concert choir, under the direction of Maestro Agathangelos Georgakatos.

The lighting will be designed by internationally-renowned designer Eleftheria Deko, who won an Emmy for her work at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The event is produced and directed by Nikos Tsaousis of the Greek National Opera.

Tickets for the event are available only from the offices of SOS Children’s Villages, 12-14 Karageorgi Servias street (1st floor), Athens.

Tel. 210-33 13 661.

The ticket price of €35 includes a reception which will be held at the Megaron after the concert.

About SOS Children’s Villages

SOS Children’s Villages Greece is a member of SOS Children’s Villages International which is currently active in 134 countries, protecting more than 450,000 children. SOS Children’s Villages have been operating in Greece since 1975, with the aim to help children who are in need of care because they have lost their parents or are homeless for other reasons, and provide them with a new and permanent home.

Children living in SOS Children’s Villages are taken care of on a continuous and consistent basis from childhood until they are properly prepared, morally, socially and professionally, and are able to live on their own. Our family approach in the SOS Children’s Village is based on four principles: each child needs a mother, and grows up most naturally with brothers and sisters, in their own house, within a supportive village environment.

In addition, since 2011, due to the financial crisis, they have extended their programs and offer to more than 1,500 families which are under poverty from Crete to Thrace, parents counseling, psychological and psychotherapeutic support for children and parents, educational assistance, and material assistance (food, clothes, etc.), with the aim to strengthen these families and prevent the abandonment of children.
