Palimpsests of Saint Catherine’s Monastery presented in Cairo event

On Tuesday, July 4th, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities organized an event in Cairo to officially present the palimpsests found in the Library of Saint Catherine’s Monastery on Mt. Sinai. Greek Minister of Digital Policy, Media and Telecommunications Nikos Pappas attended the event accompanied by many Egyptian government officials, among others by Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani who spoke about the importance of discovering the palimpsests that were officially presented by Saint Catherine’s Monastery for the first time yesterday.

Around 3,300 manuscripts are located in the Monastery Library, written in eleven languages and essentially important for studying the scripture, including works by the Early Church Fathers, classical Greek texts and medical texts.
