Director, screenwriter and actor Werner Herzog will visit Athens at the invitation of the Onassis Foundation, for a tribute that aims to cover the whole range of his unconventional, multifaceted and influential creative universe, ANA reports.
The audience will have the opportunity to dive into the world of Herzog’s movies from five decades of his filmography on April 11 at Mikri Skini of Stegi (Onassis Stegi) and on April 13 at the Goethe-Institut Athen. It will also be able to listen to the multitalented German artist at an in-depth discussion with one of the most prominent American intellectuals, Paul Holdengraeber.
Herzog has a special connection with Greece and its antiquities. His grandfather Rudolf Herzog (1871-1953), scholar and archaeologist, excavated the island of Kos in the early 20th century. His disoveries at the site and the work of his grandfather inspired young Herzog. Two of his first short-films – Last Words (1968) and Signs of Life (1968) -were shot in Greece and will be screened on April 11 at the Onassis Stegi.
