This year’s “Blue Dream” charity event in Southampton, New York, took place on August 24, with hundreds of guests once again helping raise money for the Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons and a charitable cause of its choosing, according to greekreporter.com.
Distinguished members of the Greek-American community took part in the gala as well as the newly-elected Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros.
Among the guests was also the previous Vice President of the US, and the front-runner for the Democratic nomination for the 2020 election, Joe Biden of Delaware.
Biden has had a long-standing relationship with the Greek-American community; he is even a member of the eminent ”Order of the Lords” (”Tagma ton Archonton” in Greek) of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
According to social media reports, Biden also told the guests jokingly that he would like to change his surname to “Bidenopoulos,” in order to make it sound more Greek!
Held by the Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons and the Greek-American community, the ”Blue Dream” charity gala this year was organized in support of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
As the organizers pointed, ”the Parish will donate 70% of this year’s proceeds to the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. All proceeds from the event will be shared between the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons.’’
The event was totally sold out, with many thousands of dollars being raised for these worthy causes.
