A new pilot program that aims at halting the flight of high-skilled Greek scientists abroad and the transition of labor market towards the digital age, is being tackled by the ReBrain Greece team, with a national plan of intelligent policies presented at the conference “ReBrain Greece: The Technological Transformation of the Labor Market”, organized on Monday, December 9th in Athens, according to int.ert.gr.
The ReBrain Greece team was formed in April 2019 at the initiative of the General Directorates for Labor Relations, Health and Safety at Work and Integration at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, with the main objective of tackling the phenomenon of the expatriation of highly skilled workers to other countries. Nevertheless, it has rapidly evolved into an inter-ministerial and interdisciplinary know-how team on the subject.
Konstantinos Agrapidas, the head of Greece’s Labour Relations General Directorate, pointed out that the project was born out of the realization that the brain drain is a major obstacle to the country’s productive and creative prospects and because of the combined changes in the labor market resulting from the impact of digital transformation due to the reinforcement and implementation of new technologies.
ReBrain Greece participants developed a set of pilot and targeted actions for specific target groups that will be implemented immediately, taking into consideration the need for high digital skills human resources. Mr. Agrapidas emphasized that this need is becoming more pressing, given that our country continues to show a digital deficit and is moving slowly towards convergence with the E.U. on the Digital Agenda 2020 objectives.
