On May 6th and 7th, Heraklion will host the 8th Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum (PSTF 2025), one of the most important conferences dedicated to the maritime tourism industry, with an emphasis on cruises and maritime tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum will be held at the Creta Maris Resort Hotel.
With Piraeus, Santorini and Mykonos representing almost 60% of the total cruise activity in Greece and with many popular destinations in the Mediterranean calling for – and some already adopting – measures to limit overtourism, the theme of PSTF 2025, “Mediterranean: Urgent Need for New Popular Ports and Destinations”, could not be more timely.
The event will bring together representatives of the global cruise industry and industry bodies, such as the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and the Mediterranean Cruise Ports Association (MedCruise), with those involved in Mediterranean cruises in order to seek solutions and design new itineraries for the future.
Alleviating pressure on already overburdened ports, exploring the possibility of including lesser-known and visited destinations in cruise itineraries, and promoting dialogue on sustainable tourism practices are among the key issues that will be raised at the Forum and discussed with cruise executives who have extensive knowledge and operational expertise in the Mediterranean.
Agios Nikolaos also expects benefits
Crete will welcome top executives of cruise companies, which is also an important opportunity for Agios Nikolaos to highlight its potential in this sector. According to available data, “in the next three years, 40 new cruise ships will be added to the global fleet, increasing capacity by 90,000 additional beds. As the Eastern Mediterranean becomes increasingly important for the industry, both large and specialized cruise companies are seeking to have a presence in Crete for PSTF 2025.”
It is noted that this year’s season in Agios Nikolaos begins on April 23 with the arrival of the first cruise ship, the Silver Spirit.
