Imbros Trail Run & Hike 2025: A sporting tribute to the History of Sfakia

On the occasion of the anniversary of the start of the 1821 Revolution in Crete, the sporting-historical event Imbros Trail Run & Hike will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Imbros, Sfakia. The event is dedicated to the memory of Antonis Plymakis, who recently passed away.

The event commemorates the events of May 29, 1821, when the revolution in Crete was declared in Panagia Thymiani and the first leaders of the Race were elected. As part of the action, runners, walkers, and nature lovers will have the opportunity to cross the Imbros Gorge, one of the most emblematic natural routes of Crete, through an 8.3 km race or equivalent walking route.

The event is coordinated by the Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipality of Sfakion, the Union of Sfakians of Chania, and the Athletic Gymnastics Association of Sfakion, with the support of the Kissamos Health Runners Group, the Innachoria Routes, and the Perivolia Tour.

The day’s program includes:

09:45 – Start of the Imbros Trail Run (8.3 km)

10:00 – Start of the walking route (Imbros Hike)

12:00 – Awards

12:30 – Treats to the participants

14:00 – End of the event
The start will be from the old Imbros Primary School, and the finish will be at Panagia Thymiani. The routes are friendly for runners of all levels, young and adult, with a limit of 150 participants. .

Participation benefits: Both routes (Trail Run & Hike) are accompanied by a participation folder with a number, technical T-shirt, commemorative medal, health coverage, intermediate water supply, catering, and photographic material.

Participation categories and awards: There will be awards per age category, while the first-place winners of the general categories will not participate in the awarding of the individual ones. A category for people with disabilities is also planned.

The route will be fully signposted, with the presence of volunteers and escorts for the safety of everyone. In case of adverse weather conditions, the organization reserves the right to modify or postpone the event.
