Colorful banners, smiles, and music from every corner of Europe flooded Daskalogianni Square in Heraklion today, where the official opening of “The Crete Trip 2025”, the international four-day cultural festival organized for the 13th consecutive year by Erasmus Student Network Greece, with the support of the Region of Crete, took place.
Approximately 800 students from 50 different countries participated in the established flag parade on the streets of Heraklion, sending a message of friendship, unity, and cultural coexistence. The participants were officially welcomed by the Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, expressing his joy at hosting young people from all over Europe and beyond.
“With the conviction that you are the lifeblood of a growing continent, your voice contains the hope, the strength, the pride of the new generation,” said Mr. Arnaoutakis, addressing the students, among other things. In his greeting, he pointed out the crucial role of the new generation in a turbulent global situation, saying that “we hope for everything from you.”
“The Crete Trip” is a dynamic annual outreach and tourism promotion event for Crete, offering participants the opportunity to experience the local culture, history, gastronomy and hospitality of the island firsthand. During the four days, the students will tour historical and natural attractions of Crete, accompanied by ESN Greece volunteers.
The reception was also attended by Deputy Governors Georgia Milaki and Nikos Syrigonakis, as well as the Delegated Advisor for Young Generation and Youth Entrepreneurship Theodora Koutentaki.
Antonis Kontokrithakis, representative of the organizing committee, thanked the Region for its long-standing support, emphasizing: “For the 13th year, the spirit of hospitality that the Region of Crete offers to the Erasmus+ mobility generation is being demonstrated. Over 800 students from 50 countries are visiting the unique places that Crete has to offer for four days.”
Crete is once again proving to be a hub of cultural exchange and international youth networking, highlighting the importance of extroversion and cultural diplomacy in practice.
