On Sunday, May 18, 2025, the Hellenic Mediterranean University (ELMEPA) Farm in Heraklion opens its doors to the public to celebrate the international institution “Fascination of Plants Day” as every year. The event is co-organized with the Region of Crete and is part of the project “Crete European Region of Gastronomy 2026”.
The International Institution Fascination of Plants Day is celebrated annually in dozens of countries around the world, under the auspices of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), and aims to highlight the beneficial impact of plants of all kinds on the quality of life of millions of people.
The events have the character of a real celebration of nature and are addressed to young and old, especially families, with the aim of implementing a Sunday escape to the city with environmental content. The events will last from early morning to afternoon (10:00 – 16:00) while the program includes various educational, informative and entertaining activities (outdoor workshops, informative meetings, exhibition displays, art exhibitions as well as choral and musical ensembles from schools of Heraklion, tour of the Farm, creative activities – games for children, etc.).
Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the School of Agricultural Sciences, the Department of Agriculture, and the Farm of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, which occupies a verdant area of several acres, constituting an important oxygen lung and at the same time a source of coolness in the urban structure of Heraklion. Various University Laboratories, schools, public bodies, structures and institutions, associations, cooperatives, and companies will participate in the events.
