The heart of basketball is beating fast this weekend in Chania, where the 9th 3×3 Basketball Cretan Series Tournament by choco BIG is being hosted. After the eight previous stops throughout Crete (Moires, Agios Nikolaos, Heraklion, Rethymno, Agies Paraskies, Sitia, Lassithi Plateau, Anogia), the event is being moved to the tennis courts of the National Stadium of Chania, on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August.
Sports at the heart of the Municipality of Chania
The Deputy Mayor for Sports, Stelios Michailakis, stressed that the Municipality of Chania actively supports sports, noting that “our city has a tradition and culture in sports, with sports being a key priority for the mental and physical health of children and citizens”.
The two-day program
The curtain opens on Saturday at 17:00 and the games will be held in all age categories (U11, U13, U15, U18, +18). The participation of girls is expected to be particularly strong, with Chania having already created a strong tradition in women’s basketball.
The program also includes the popular three-point and free throw competitions, which always attract the interest of the public and athletes.
An event with quality and social significance
The tournaments are held in modern, FIBA-certified courts and with all safety standards. Participation is free for everyone, while there is the option of purchasing collector’s jerseys (3€), with the proceeds going to the Athletic Association for the Physically Disabled (ASKA) of Heraklion.
The sequel
After Chania, Paleochora will take its turn on August 30-31, while this year’s series of events will close in Neapoli, Lassithi, on September 13.
