The future of tourism at the WTTC World Summit in Rome

The 25th World Summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) will be held in Rome, the “Eternal City”, from 28 to 30 September. The event, considered the most important global event for tourism, will bring together industry leaders from Italy and around the world to discuss its future.

Italian leaders in the spotlight

The Summit will be attended by top names from Italian tourism, led by Manfredi Lefebvre, President-Elect of the WTTC and Executive Chairman of AKTG, Abercrombie & Kent and Crystal Cruises.

“I am optimistic about the future of our industry. With Italy’s incredible destinations, rich cultural heritage and world-class hospitality, we have the potential to shape the future of travel and tourism for generations to come,” said Lefebvre.

Among the distinguished speakers taking the stage are:

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises.

Gabriele Burgio, CEO of Alpitour World.

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Executive Chairman of Italo.

Nerio Alessandri, Founder & CEO of Technogym.

Italy’s Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, highlighted the importance of hosting the event: “Italy has returned to a central role in the global tourism landscape. The fact that the most prestigious event in the sector is taking place in our country is a clear demonstration of its internationally recognized centrality.”

Ivana Jelinic, CEO of ENIT S.p.A. (Italian National Tourism Organization), highlighted the diversity of Italian destinations: “Italy is one of the most sought-after destinations in the world. Thanks to the uniqueness of our regions, we can attract different types of tourists, offering them unique experiences.”

The future of the sector in focus

The Summit, held in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Tourism, the Italian National Tourism Organization (ENIT S.p.A), the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region, will host discussions on important developments shaping the future of tourism, such as artificial intelligence and sustainable aviation.

According to the latest WTTC survey, the tourism sector in Italy is expected to record a record performance in 2025. International visitors are expected to spend €60.4 billion, an all-time high. At the same time, the sector is expected to support 3.2 million jobs, 100,000 more than the previous year, and contribute €237.4 billion to the Italian economy.

Participants will meet at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, with the aim of charting a course for a sector that has proven its potential to create jobs, boost economies and promote cultural exchanges.
