Crete will host the 10th international conference Advances in Tourism Marketing Conference (ATMC 2025) from 24 to 26 September 2025 on the theme “Resilient Futures & Creative Placemaking”, organized by the Department of Business Administration and Tourism of the Hellenic Mediterranean University in Heraklion.
ATMC, which began in 2005 and has already traveled to nine countries (from Turkey and Spain, to the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Morocco and France), returns to Greece this year to highlight new perspectives in international tourism marketing.
Resilience and Placemaking
The theme focuses on the major challenges faced by tourism in recent decades – from the terrorist attacks of September 11 to the COVID-19 pandemic and recent geopolitical crises. The aim is to explore how academic knowledge, innovation and creativity can lead to more resilient and sustainable development models.
A special place is occupied by the concept of creative placemaking – the creative management of place through culture, storytelling, local identity and participatory processes, which enhance the quality of life and the attractiveness of destinations.
International forum for dialogue
The conference will bring together academics, researchers, postgraduate students, as well as representatives from the market and politics. The topics include, among others:
Creative tourism and place branding
Gastronomy, wine tourism and agrotourism
Sustainability and hypertourism
Digital experiences and UX design in tourism
Artificial intelligence and robotics
Traveler behavior on social media
Entrepreneurship and new models of collaborative economy
The conference will be held at the modern facilities of the School of Health Sciences of ELMEPA, next to an olive grove and a rural park of the University. Heraklion, a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, was designated in 2023 as one of the Seven World Cities of Gastronomy, an element that will also highlight the social program of the event.
