The Los Angeles Chargers continue to strengthen their presence and deepen their connection to Greece, following their first visit to Athens earlier this year, when they announced their 2025 NFL Draft 5th round pick from the iconic Grande Bretagne Hotel in April.
In a groundbreaking initiative that highlights the team’s commitment to youth development, international outreach and cultural heritage, the Chargers will host a series of events on the Aegean island of Santorini in October 2025, marking a significant milestone for the sport in Greece.
Bridging Cultures Through Sports
This historic visit will take place on October 10-12 on one of Greece’s most stunning islands, with the support of the Municipality of Thira as part of the Santorini Experience. The event highlights the Chargers’ mission to grow flag football internationally, especially in anticipation of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where it will be featured for the first time as an official sport. In doing so, the Los Angeles Chargers are not only promoting the sport globally, but also inspiring a new generation of athletes, creating a safe, educational and enjoyable program for the young men and women of Santorini.
A Deep Personal Connection to Greece
Through youth development programs, educational activities and community service, the Chargers also seek to honor their heritage. Their presence in Greece is more than just a sports initiative — it’s a return to roots for the Spanos family, including Dean Spanos, Owner and Chairman of the Board of the Chargers, and Michael Spanos, Co-Owner and Vice Chairman — grandchildren of Greek immigrants from the Aegean island of Symi.
