A significant exhibition dedicated to Chinese architectural tradition and its contemporary cultural identity is being hosted today, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, by the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Crete.
The Architecture Exhibition “The City and the Countryside – The Living Pulse of Chinese Architecture and Cultural Heritage” will be held at the “Manousos Manousakis” Amphitheatre of the Foundation, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, offering the public a journey of knowledge and aesthetics into the rich architectural history of China.
The initiative belongs to the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and the Embassy of China in Greece, in collaboration with the Technical University of Crete, the University of Crete, Shandong Jiaotong University, the Shandong Seismological Service, the Center for Chinese and Greek Culture (KELKIP) and the Confucius Institute of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Scientific dimension and intercultural dialogue
In the first part of the event, which will be hosted at the “Manousos Manousakis” amphitheater, professors Konstantinos-Alketas Ouggrinis and Nikolaos Skoutelis from the Technical University of Crete, as well as Chinese academics Wang Wei and Fu Daochun from Shandong Jiaotong University, will speak.
Of particular interest is expected to be Professor Fu Daochun’s speech on “How Ancient Chinese Buildings Withstand Earthquakes,” which connects ancient technical wisdom with modern earthquake-resistant technology.
A Journey Through Chinese Architecture
The “City and Countryside” exhibition will be presented in the foyer of the amphitheater, divided into three sections:
the architectural model exhibition titled “The Beauty of Ancient Chinese Architecture Through Time,” the photo exhibition “Wuhan – A City on the Yangtze River,” and the video screening on “The History of Songyang Province and Changes in the Countryside.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to admire detailed architectural models, such as the “Yellow Crane Tower” and traditional Chinese sheds, while at the same time participating experientially in the assembly of models and the creation of traditional prints from Chinese plates.
Cultural bridge between Greece and China
The exhibition attempts to highlight the depth and continuity of Chinese culture, through the art of architecture, which for centuries expressed not only the technical prowess but also the philosophy of life of a people. At the same time, it provides the opportunity for a substantive dialogue between Chinese and Greek cultural heritage, in an era where the cooperation of universities and cultural institutions is gaining particular importance.
Finally, it should be emphasized that the action is part of broader synergies between Greek universities and Chinese academic institutions, aiming to exchange knowledge, culture and technology in the field of architecture and cultural management.
