Propontis: Networking green and blue European cities

Propontis Municipality decided to proceed with the submission of a proposal to create a network between the municipalities of New Propontis from Greece, Reggio from Italy, Limassol from Cyprus and Aghioi Saranta from Albania in the context of networking “Green Cities” and “Blue Cities”.

Within this framework, it approved funding of up to 85% of the requested budget and the sum of 150,000 euros, with the possibility of pre-financing of 40% upon provision of collateral by the European Commission’s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA)

Eligible costs

The necessary and eligible costs for this project may include:

1. Costs of personnel directly linked to the project

2. Travel and accommodation costs of participants in events,

3. Necessary venue rental / interpretation / translation costs for the conducting of events

4. Promotion and Communications expenditures related to the events,

5. Coordination costs generated by the involvement of numerous organizations.

The concept of establishing a Network of European Blue and Green Cities originated from the  positive experience of Thessaloniki’s candidacy for “European Green Capital 2014” and the signing of the “Covenant of Mayors”.

It was through this process, as well as national strategies and policies and the exchange of information between municipalities, that a large deficit in communication and coordination between the cities that have active urban environment improvement agendas was detected.
