Greece’s city of Ioannina has broken a new Guinness World Record for collecting and recycling the largest amount of glass bottles within a week, according to greekcitytimes.com.
The National Collective Recycling System of Ioannina concluded the task from April 30th, 2019, through to May 7th, 2019, recording a collection and recycling of 134, 972 kg of glass packaging, which totalled to 429,254 bottles.
The recycling of glass bottles took place at the high-tech Recycling Centre of Ioannina, which began its operation with the most promising message for the protection of the environment, with the help of locals.
The “Ioannina Recycling Complex” was inaugurated by His Eminence Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece, Ieronymos II.
“The achievement of this unique global Guinness World Record was carried out with the unparalleled contribution of the Holy Metropolis of Ioannina and with the help of dozens of volunteers and priests for the weighing and recycling of the glass containers that were collected,” noted the local Mayor.
