Greek President signs climate declaration ahead United Nations Summit

Greece’s President Prokopis Pavlopoulos signed a declaration with another 31 heads of state and government, calling for an initiative to adopt more ambitious climate goals, ahead of the United Nations Climate Summit in New York on September 21-23, greekcitytimes.com reports.

The initiative comes following the conclusions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report and the results of COP 24.

All 32 leaders call on all parties participating in the U.N. Summit to view 2019 as a year of ambitious climate goals and support the adoption of specific plans and initiatives aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions beyond the current targets set for 2030.

They also call for immediate action, underlining that climate change is the main challenge of our time, and point out the need to give our children and future generations a world, as they say, ‘worth living in.
