Ecumenical Patriarch urges world leaders to attain targets of Paris agreement

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Thursday urged global leaders to speed up progress “towards achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement on decarbonization,” in a message to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on the occasion of the UN Summit on Climate Change in New York, ANA reports.

According to a statement from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Bartholomew also called for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions “as soon as possible,” in line with the requirements of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
