At an event on renewable energy sources (RES), Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis pointed out that a key objective of the government’s energy policy and the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), according to Greece’s commitment to international obligations, the country is turning to RES for electricity production, int.ert.gr reports.
According to the NECP, renewable energy sources should cover 35% of total energy consumption by 2030, from 18% which is today, and more than 60% of electricity consumption.
The installed capacity of photovoltaics must be more than doubled, from 3,000MW which is today to 7,700MW by 2030. To attain these goals, large-scale RES plants are needed, such as the 204MW photovoltaic power plant that will be commissioned by HELPE, and which will be the largest photovoltaic structure in Greece and one of the largest in Europe.
