The TOP 5 of the “stunning wonders of nature”, which one has to visit in the Balkans, includes the rare wetland of Kerkini in Central Macedonia, according to Forbes travel blog, protothema.gr reports.
The article recognizes the significance of the lake, and even though the lake is artificial, it has become essentially one with the natural environment.
At the same time, however, the situation in the surrounding area is desperate, with professionals in the area complaining about the municipality of Sintiki and P.E. Serres for the bad image.
Forbes travel blogger Jared Ranahan presents his own list, suggesting foreign visitors travel to the Balkans and discover destinations – wonders of nature. “Lush valleys, towering mountains, and a variety of indigenous Balkan species are just some of the main attractions awaiting visitors to this historic area,” he writes, adding to his list, in addition to Kerkini, the Una National Park (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Tara National Park (Serbia), Valbona Valley National Park (Albania) and Pirin National Park (Bulgaria).
