This January was the second warmest since 2010 in northern Greece and Thessaly, and the third warmest in western Greece, the National Observatory of Athens said on Thursday, ANA reports.
According to the network of 53 meteorological stations of the Observatory’s meteo. gr that has been in continuous operation since 2010, the average of the maximum daily temperatures this January reached high levels across Greece, compared to the average of the period 2010-2019.
The highest positive temperature deviations were recorded in western Macedonia, with monthly average values ranging up to 3 ° C above normal for the season. In western and central Greece, the Peloponnese, and the Aegean Islands, smaller deviations of +1.3 ° C to +1.6 ° C were recorded.
The highest positive temperature deviations – up to 12 ° C above normal for the season – were recorded in the first ten days of January and mainly in northern Greece. The coldest period with negative deviations in eastern Greece occurred during the last five days of the month when the “Αvgi” weather front swept through the country.
