107 proposals for the creation of trails are included in the Recovery Fund

All of the proposals submitted and meeting the criteria for the “Creation of a national network of trails and hiking routes” throughout the country are included in the Recovery and Resilience Fund, by Decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis. These are 107 proposals, amounting to 41,224,054.39 euros, which were submitted by Municipalities, Regions and Holy Monasteries.

It is noted that in the initial Ministerial Decision (October 2024) 64 proposals were approved, while with this new Ministerial Decision, 43 more were approved, after the timely submission of the supporting documents, according to the approved Minutes of the Evaluation Committee and the Objections Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (OFYPEKA).

The proposals include, among others, projects for the creation or promotion of trails in Asterousia in Crete, in Kalymnos, in Folegandros, in Municipalities of the Peloponnese Region, in Municipalities of the Epirus Region, as well as in Island Municipalities and affected areas of the Thessaly Region.

The aim of the project is to create and promote an extensive network of hiking trails, that extend throughout the territory, contributing to the preservation and protection of the countryside, and natural and cultural heritage.

The Action has been included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” and, in particular, in Axis 1.4 “Sustainable use of resources, resilience to climate change and conservation of biodiversity” of the Axis “The protection of biodiversity as a driving force for sustainable development”, with OFYPEKA as the intermediate implementing and financing body.
