8 Greek beaches are included in the list of top 30 beaches worldwide that cause happiness to their visitors, according to a CV Villas survey.

How is happiness achieved?

Travel experts used AWS facial recognition software to analyze thousands of Instagram photos from more than 100 beaches around the world, revealing which sandy shores bring the biggest smiles.

Each image was evaluated by emotion technology to measure happiness levels. The researchers then calculated an average score, with a perfect score of 100, to create an overall beach happiness score for each location.

Barcelona’s Sitges beach scored 98.42 points and was named the happiest beach in the world.

The 8 Greek beaches

  • Elafonisi Beach came in 9th place with 93.34 points
  • Ai Heli beach in Kefalonia came in 10th with 92.25 points
  • The beach in Mongonisi, a small island next to Paxos, came in 15th in the global ranking of the survey
  • The beach in the village of Agios Georgios (Pagon) in Corfu is in 17th place with 88.92 points
  • Myrtos beach in Kefalonia is 18th with 87.82 points
  • Glyfada Beach is in 20th place with 85.29 points
  • The beach in Kalamitsi is 23rd with 84.64 points
  • Porto Katsiki is in 30th place with 80.46 points

Three Greek beaches make the top 15 list. Elafonisi Beach and Ai Helis are ranked ninth and tenth globally, while Mongonisi Beach is fifteenth.
