The Municipality of Sfakia announces the launch of the “Mountain School”, a new educational action aimed at exploiting the natural and cultural wealth of the region, as well as developing skills related to the mountain and outdoor activities.
The School includes theoretical and practical courses in the fields of mountaineering and hiking, with an emphasis on technical training, from the use of equipment and route techniques to route marking and orientation in the field. Particular emphasis is placed on safety issues, with training in risk management, first aid, and basic survival skills in nature.
At the same time, the program incorporates elements of cultural tourism and the promotion of local tradition through the introduction to historical trails and training in hospitality and visitor guidance. In this way, the School also aims to strengthen alternative tourism and sustainable development in the wider region.
Attending the program may offer professional opportunities in the fields of sightseeing tourism, environmental tourism, and mountain guide services.
